I loved the original and would be happy to reread the revision. The first time through it was a real page turner; it will be interesting to see how it reads when I already know what will happen.
Have you kept the plot intact and made the language tighter or trimmed the plot and kept the language largely the same or a bit of both?
Largely it's a cutdown in language. The original intent was to have lots of detail, lots of descriptions of things --- how to shingle a slate roof; how to dye silk; to how to compose extemporaneously --- and those were supposed to balance out the "how to" sexual descriptions. I wanted it to be lush and sensual.
However, practically speaking, some of that detail has to go. I've left as much of it intact as possible, given space constraints. Also, I did look for "fat" in the language. Jessica, for instance, doesn't need as many asides to her audience as she does.
Also, I've toned down the homoerotic stuff some, so that it's more implied than spelled out. Although the group sex scene is still there.
The one where he describes in great detail what he and Mark do when they're alone? The most graphic parts of that have been cut, actually, with just enough remaining to get the idea of what's going on.
The fact that I got off on it so much was probably an indication that it was over the top.
