How Do You Know If Your Cat Has Gone Mental?

This is not an idle question. Really.

Backstory: Asher and Dan are our two cats, littermates who probably just celebrated their 12th birthday. Asher is a big white fluffy neurotic bunny of a kitty, and always has been: he's hidden in a refrigerator, inside a knee wall, underneath a kitchen sink, inside a drop ceiling---some of these for days on ( Read more... )

Some vets prescribe antidepressants. I'd look into it.

They actually make these things that are like Glade plug-ins full of kitty pheromones that are supposed to reduce the weirdness produced by whatever it is that stresses cats out. The internet seems to have them for less than $20, so it might be worth a go?

I forgot -- you can also give cats rescue remedy if you can get it down their little furry throats. Maybe you could sneak it into the food? It does have a distinct smell, but so does meat!

He never stood on my chest! In fact, he seemed horrified at the slightest hint of being on me instead of beside me.

I always found a lot of socks when I was his preferred recipient of hunted trophies. I didn't notice the earlier prowling, just the later. I wonder if that was affected by the amount of time I spent in my room?

Also, he really liked hanging out under my bed. Could he be missing that?

What a sweet angel. I say pitch this to some of the cat communities. Kittypix is one...gotta post the pic to keep it legal but they are pretty good about giving advice & sharing experiences.... lots of vets & vet techs read it also.

I've not had the problem. I've received a few unwanted gifts or rodents & insects before, but nothing as OCD as this. Perhaps the vet could give you some kitty valerian or something. Do let us know what you find out.

Hee hee ... the armpit thing does tickle....

We're dealing with some cat weirdness ourselves, and are probably going to pursue the cat-pheromone atomizer route someone else already mentioned (at our vet's suggestion). Our retriever cat has brought rocks up from the basement and left raw potatoes in our bed (that was really weird).
