Therapi yarn from SouthWest Trading Company is "a blend of 50 percent wool, 20 percent silk, and 30 percent Bowlder, a crushed jadeite-based fiber. Wow. Haven't heard about that before, but it's hard to believe that it wouldn't have the same drawbacks as asbestos. (But then, I'm not a geologist.) Everyone from the ancient Greeks up through the middle ages spun that into thread and wove with it. All the ancients warned about the dangers - they noticed slaves wearing asbestos cloth and asbestos miners ended up with lung disease. Modern civilization? Apparently not as bright.

I have to wonder: If you can spin the fibers, what happens when you breathe the fibers?

Just the same, I'm intrigued! I'll check it out if I see any! :-)

My instinct would be caution--but that is based upon knowing how bad for lungs asbestos is, and how bad for lungs rock powder is. I've not heard of this one before though. It *might* be ok, but...

I've seen paper made from stone, but it is really hard to envision a yarn! Weird.
