Fic: Girl Talk

Another prompt fill for lost_spook's Obscure & British fest, although with a difference this time; I subverted the prompt a little.  Also, I'm putting it at the end.

Girl Talk

Natasha Romanov had told her current case officer that it was a small, tidy cottage in rural Sussex - a typical retirement spot for a former civil servant.

It wasn’t, of course. The ( Read more... )

All my yesses. Every one of them.

Although I was mildly hoping that a not-very-retired Modesty Blaise might be the third member of the consultation, but M will do extremely well indeed.

That final portion of the conversation... breathtaking. Fantastic. Excellent writing, excellent insight!

Alas, I don't know Modesty Blaise nearly enough to write her. But I have a long-standing crush on Judi Dench, and an even longer-standing one on Diana Rigg.

Ooooooooo. That was just sparkly good in all those old spy flick ways that I loved growing up...and still do.

The crack about the wingman made me laugh out loud, though. Seriously funny, that!

Wonderful story, yay!

Squee!! Thank you!

The fair-haired boy and the wingman, yes! That just came to me, bang, without my even reaching for it. *g*

I. Love. This.

Seriously, great fic. Glad it exists. :)

Also, one thing martial arts has taught me? Nearly all women (and frankly many men) shut down when they are punched hard. I promise you you aren't dead. Fight on. Or run. Or something. But don't shut down.

Thank you!

I had already started the fic, knowing that it was just going to be Ass-Kicking Women Talking Shop, when that bit came to me, and I realized that it was the whole point of the conversation.

\o/ I'll say again that I thoroughly enjoyed this one. And as to thanking me, pshaw! There was nothing that needed doing to it. (Awkward beta situations #1: my author's fic is perfect, am I doing a bad job? ;-p)

(It occurs to me that I never replied to your last email. Sorry! I am very good at replying on LJ, where I spend far too much time, but often quite terrible at replying via email, especially once something's been read. /o\)

Without your help, I wouldn't have found the flat! It would be hanging out on Handwavium Square, which is quite the wrong neighbourhood.

But Handwavium Square is always the right neighbourhood - so close to the shops/sea/city/dark forest etc. etc. ;-)
