WhoFic: Taking Care

Dec 31, 2013 22:45

After so many months with so little inspiration, I woke up the morning after watching the Doctor Who 50th anniversary episode with two shiny new plot bunnies!  One of them hopped away without much to show for it, but this one stayed for tea.

Taking CareThe place really did need more opportunities for people to sit down. Art galleries never had ( Read more... )

I love it! How perfect that the universe now comes to him, and how wonderful that he still manages to help people who need comfort. This is exactly the kind of retirement I want the Doctor to have.

Thank you!

I was whooping with glee inside at seeing Tom Baker again, of course, and I so wanted to write something about it! I originally thought there would be something about Gallifrey in there, but it's just as well that there wasn't, since it would have been entirely Jossed. Instead, I ran with that lovely line in the anniversary special about the effect of the sound of the TARDIS. *g*

I tried, at first, to stick to aliens and planets that actually exist in canon, but there aren't nearly enough alien races that aren't enemy nasties. It made just as much sense for there to be more that we simply haven't met yet, although of course the Doctor has!

How beautiful is this? I love the immersive descriptions of the scent-sound displays, and this wonderful idea of the Caretaker curating the art of lost and forgotten races so that, even if they're gone, their hopes and dreams and creativity will live on.

The last line with the TARDIS keeping the tea warm for him is very sweet. Reading this felt like a warm hug. Thank you for sharing!

*beams* Thank you so very much!

I had a lovely time writing it, and thinking as far outside the box as I could -- since the TARDIS is a box large enough to hold anything!

*flails* This was wonderful, so sweet and warm.

The sonic/scent installations remind me a little of Harold and Maude. Coincidence?

*happy bounces* Thank you so much!

Wow, it's been sooo many years since the one time I saw Harold and Maude, it has to be coincidence. I wish I could claim it as a Grand Overarching Vision, but nope.

If I may ask, I'm curious as to how you came to be reading this, since it was posted quite a while ago. I love having folks wander around in the galleries, I mean archives, as it were; I'm just curious.

Ooh boy, I'm really not sure. Possibly someone's rec list or did you mention it in any other communities, like who_at_50? I just got into Doctor Who a little less than a year ago and I've been gradually chipping away at a long list of bookmarks, but it means that by the time I get around to any particular one, I may have long since forgotten how I dug it up.
