Just in case anyone is reading this who missed the non-LOL posts on LOLMac: I have been in hospital since Monday night. I’m home now. I’m going to leave out a great many details here. Just so you know.
At my request, Missy posted a short bit on LOLMac itself to explain why the daily posts were interrupted. But the post had no LOL, which made it easy to overlook.
Glad Missy was there, Heyer is an excellent choice. During my only adult hospital visit I made J bring me a book about WWII cryptography and a book about women artists of the left bank. I read neither. Mostly I watched Animal Planet and learned about bored octopuses being made to do puzzles to get their food in aquariums. "Bored octopus" is a relatively accurate description of smart people in a convalescent state. I hope between the naps the internet is keeping you sufficiently entertained.
I told one of my friends the news story about the Marines being the only branch to show up at an LGBT community center in Oklahoma that invited all the branches to come recruit on Sept. 20th. She said, "Semper Bi!" J wants to get it on a t-shirt.
Really relieved that some rest, blood transfusions, and not being operated on for non-existent appendicitis fixed things up for you. Sounds like there were some nightmarish components to the situation!
Marines FTW! That is not the branch I would have expected to turn up for the grand prize. Hey, maybe five years from now they'll have re-formed the Sacred Band and be proudly presenting themselves as having the MOST KICKASS GODDAMNED FAGGOTS IN THE FREAKIN WORLD AND DON'T YOU EVER FORGET IT.
I could totally see that. You know, I wholeheartedly support the repeal because discrimination must not stand, but as a pacifist I find it weird to think about scenarios like that and grin.
Gaaaack! What a mess, and I'm so sorry you had to go through it. Certainly plenty scary to read about, and I'm sure it was worse to live through. I am very glad that M was there with you, and was able to be so with no hassle from any quarter.
Notes for future: I hope you are taking steps either to find a different doctor for future colonoscopies, or to make enough noise about the medically dangerous (potentially life-threatening?) situation they allowed to develop that they will *FIX* the hole in their office staff's training. The implications of this still make me shudder.
Just glad to know you're home, doing better, with a good prognosis from here. Yay for that part!
Young Doctor Young, in the conversation that included his own scolding from me, gave me some information about the meetings and discussion and 'learning', and protocol and procedure changes and improvements that had been set in train in their practice since the details of my situation came to light. Damned good thing, too.
He made a rotten job of actually telling me, because he's Way Too Young to have learned how to talk to intelligent pissed-off patients; he especially needs to learn how to apologise with grace and sincerity. But the cat did get well amongst the pigeons

I'm glad to hear that the medical practice is trying to learn from their mistake. I do wonder, though, whether you could parlay their ... negligence ... into covering your hospital bills, in exchange for your not filing a malpractice lawsuit.
I'm relieved to learn of the plan to switch doctors; YDY clearly needs remedial help, and you shouldn't be the one to suffer because he hasn't gotten it yet.
Hoping you're already feeling most of the way back to your old self.
It is indeed. Well, the bits of it I see are. (I think the last time I actually made a concerted effort to watch telly was five years ago? In Florida, in fact. While (mildly) ill. *head-tilty of slight amusement*)
Yay Doctor Who reruns! (Old or new?)
'Also, can anyone tell me when the History Channel became the Testosterone Channel? huh??'
*ignores apparent rhetoricity of question* ;-) They do seem to be getting rather more melodramatic and, well... explosion-filled, don't they? And more focussed on 20th-century gadgets and conspiracy theories than on, you know, ruins and skeletons and things. (Skeletons are cool. *g*)
'I simply could not have made it without her, and I wibble when I think about it. Wibble.'Awwww. You know, you and Missy... I don't know how to say this, but it's not exaggerating to say that you two were the primary factor in, er, turning my mindset around. You know when

You made Missy groan loudly, but in a good way.

This was the article, it did make me give a little cheer for the Marines. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/21/us/marine-recruiters-visit-gay-center-in-oklahoma.html

'Um. Snif. You folks rock - what else can I say?'
Aw. Thank you. :-)
'TV is horrible.'
