Well, That Was Awkward

Remember the ‘Placeholder’ post I put on here late in June, for the story I'd written for the sg1friendathon? The story was the second one finished and was supposed to ‘go live’ on August 2nd, but, well, there was some kind of mixup.  (And yes, it was awkward.) So here it is, at last.

The ficathon was specifically gen stories, 1000 word minimum, focused on

*g* Thank you so much! Yes, I had a lovely moment when I realised that 'have to pretend to be married' could be an activity instead of a passive state. It gave me a golden opportunity for CulturalExpert!Daniel to have fun.

Most of the temptation in the prompt was thinking up five ways to subvert the trope. I must say the characters cooperated beautifully with it.

I love them all, the first one for the way Jack has mastered the tactical logic of the situation, while Sam is still trying to get her head around it, the second for the image of Sam outsprinting Daniel to be able to rule the roost, the third one for a bang-on depiction of Hammond's sly sense of humor, which so perfectly reinforces his command presence, the fourth for the way it sneakily reversed the conditions and had an awkward moment leading to the marriage, rather than the other way around, and the last for the Awesome Teal'c of Great Awesomeness, which he always quietly is.

'Tis my only Daniel 'n Sam icon, methinks.

That was fun! I loved most Daniel telling us about all the wedding customs. Too bad there was no elephant in the room ;)

I did consider having Cassie produce a stuffed elephant, but it was more fun to let Daniel gallup merrily on.

Thank you so much! I'm still very new to Stargate fic -- I've mostly written MacGyver so far -- and it means a great deal to me to get the characters' voices right.

I'm especially glad that you liked the last one (which does push right up against the restrictions of the ficathon). I wanted to do an arc that ran from serious to lighthearted and back to serious -- the show's magnificent ability to cover that range is, for me, one of the most unusual and important things about it.
