Some [Incredibly Long-Winded] Thoughts on Running a Fic/Art Exchange

Jul 04, 2010 11:34

Before I begin, I need to make a couple of comments:

1. I'm mostly not going to be talking about Fests. When I think of Fests, what comes to my mind (rightly or wrongly) is a prompt-driven Fic and/or Art festival that focuses on a single theme or pairing or fandom. While Fests and Exchanges have many things in common, my main interest (in part ( Read more... )

1. I love reading about mechanics and organization. I am weird that way.

2. Snape/Hermione exchange, for example, are currently overseeing a BINGO game in which you give feedback, and then get your square based on the names of recipients, and that seems to be helping keep the comment levels higher than normal, but...the sshg_exchange has a gazillion participants, so we'll see what the comment levels look like in another month.

a. Thanks for the shout out!

b. Though we set it up for the ss/hg exchange, exchange_bingo is intended to be used by any fandom for any fest/exchange with a minimum of 24 participants (so there are no name repeats on a single card). Any interested party with a "worker crew" (we recommend two-three people) can sign up with us and receive all the templates/spreadsheets/posting access to run a bingo of their own from the exchange bingo comm.

Re: a, you're welcome (although I would like to object to the fact that I haven't won yet. I clearly must have been sent faulty bingo cards! *g*)

I would like to object too! As a mod, I thought I had the Tim-Tams in the bag. I'm not even close to winning. ~sigh~

thanks, m'dear. And honestly, after a million years in fandom, you just pick things up. I'm reminded all the time, though, of how much I still don't know.

Just read this and boy I could've used it a few days ago. lol I was sent here via a link in my own comm for a bigbang I just started and I already had a few fails. But this has helped me tremendously and I hope to have 'revised posts' up within a day or so.

So, I just wanted to say thank you!

As a side note, read some of your journal and I really like what I'm reading, so I hope you don't mind, but I friended ya. :)

You are so very welcome...I'm glad that some of what I said was able to spark a re-think of some of your own policies (because yes, it's so hard to change things after you've made a decision, but sometimes it's the only right way to proceed)

Just wanted to tell you that this post really appealed to the organisation freak in me. *g* Doesn't matter that I never had any desire to get involved in any kind of modding, or that I haven't even participated in any fests since last year - I just love reading about these things. And even without having taken part in hp_beholder, or before I'd read this post, I always thought of you as an excellent mod. :)

Oh, you are a sweetheart! Seriously, thanks for the kind words...and you know, there's always room for returning fans to participate in Beholder *hints*

*fangirls all over you*

I can't remember who I tell this to, so please forgive me if it's a repeat, but if you want to make that HTML code something that can be copied and pasted with no bracket replacement needed? You can just type < for < and > for >. Then you can type if you like. :D

ETA: That's what happens when you forget those letters are "less than" and "greater than", not "left something-with-a-t" and "right something-with-a-t". *facepalm*
