Why is he my hero, you ask? (and most other Gators' hero, for that matter.)  And why is he hated by so many non-Gators?

From a SI article:

South Carolina's Steve Spurrier, who coached the Gators to the '96 national championship, moved Florida past Michigan in the coaches' poll.

His reasoning?

"Heck, I'm a Gator," he said. "I went there. So I had a lot ( Read more... )

You love him because he admitted to the biased nature of the BCS system and then flaunted it all over the place and then claimed allegiance to a place that he wiped with his ass and is now acting like he's still a God there?

The Cocks can have him.

F you, dude.

;)

P.S. He is still a god here. You must have missed this football season and all the times we invited him back to Florida Field for different honors.

I know, I know. But I want a BCS title through sportsmanship, not oneupsmanship, nahmean?

Yeah, me too. I don't really see what this has to do with oneupsmanship though. Who's he trying to one up? What does this have to do with sportsmanship?

Spurrier was obsesse w/ dominating the other team to the point where he forgot what sports are about in the first place.

Objectively, sports are a GAME--they have no immediately redeeming value. They GAIN value through their subjective positive attributes w/ regard to society: stuff like sportsmanship, organized (read: functional) competition, and reinactment of archetypical drama. These are good things, but they have to be recognized and supported by those involved in said sport to be effective.

Without that, you're left w/ escapism, fat armchair quarterbacks, and drunk alumni.

I think we are rightfully entitled to the #2 spot. We have the hardest conference in the country and we won that with only one loss. That's pretty damn good! The teams weve had to play all year were much harder match-ups than I think either Michigan or Ohio State had. They are both good teams, but I don't think that makes the Gators any less deserving.

Damn right.

The coach from Washington State voted us #1 because he didn't think Michigan or Ohio State could have made it through our schedule with only one loss. :)

Here's why the SEC is the best conference. They stick together. All of the SEC coaches with a vote went with Florida. The Big 10 couldn't do that, thanks to Ron Zook. Actually, all of the coaches with a UF connection went with the Gators. Spurrier, Zook, Stoops.

Fun fact: Urban Meyer has been offered a vote in the poll several times, but has refused because he doesn't want to be a part of a flawed system. Kick ass.
