Ugggh I feel so sick and gross. And I missed my first class today because I was dizzy and went back to bed without resetting my alarm and now I'm terrified I'll get chucked off the course. (And, of course, I haven't finished the coursework for that class which was due in today ( Read more... )

*snug* I'm hoping like hell that the Lib Dems will keep them from doing anything too evil, but idk. I don't fancy the BBC's chances with a Tory government, not with them being so in hock to Rupert Bloody Murdoch.

I totally need to learn Russian. Mum could help, since technically it's her native... I actually took a course one, so now I can say "this is my cat", and read cyrillic...

Btw I'm totally coming along if you want to go to Moscow! I haven't been there in years. Or St Petersburg. I want to visit the Catherine Palace.

I have never been to Russia and I know nothing about Russian beyond the little bits that Agatha Christie used to be so fond of using as clues in the Poirot mysteries. But it sounded cool, and I really want to go there. I was torn between Russian, Greek or a class on Welsh myths, but being Welsh and studying Welsh myths kind of seemed like something I could do anytime, you know?

I know what you mean...

Russia is definitely unique in every way, both in its history and modern culture, not to mention their politics... Not all of it is good, and as their border neighbour (and considering there's a bit of bad blood between our two countries), Finns have more, hm, firsthand experience than most countries. For example, they keep invading our airspace, which is easily proven with radars and the like... and then they deny it ever happened :D They do it with Estonia too, though. Also, they say if we join NATO, they'll interpret it as Finland threatening Russia -_- That's not to say that I actively worry about Russia as a security threat (like some - older - Finns do), but they do have a sort of a bullying attitude...

I'm digressing. In any case, it is massively versatile and fascinating, so if you ever get a chance to go, you totally should!

Changing the topic - will you be in Cardiff sometime around, say 26th-28th of July? I'm thinking of spending a few days after Yorkshire, so we could meet up?

We apparently get the Russians in our airspace quite a lot, too! The RAF keeps having to chase them off. I'd love to go there. I know a certain amount about the history, and it's always seemed a fascinating and very different place to anywhere I've ever been.

And I've just checked my diary and it looks like I should definitely be free, so I've made a note! I'd love to get to show you around Cardiff - that city is my baby. As you, uh, may have noticed. *g* If you don't have any friends in London I could do a pretty good job of showing you around there, too, I think?
