Buffy was out patrolling. Again. It was what she did.

The vampires had thinned out since the event, and with Angel having his soul again, this wasn't the hunt that she had been doing the past few months. It was much more relaxed, much easier, and she was enjoying it a lot more. After all, wandering the city had it's moments. True, it was still Bete Noire, and it wasn't the shiny, glimmering city she had seen in her vision, but it was certainly something, all on it's own.

She was just rounding the corner when she spotted Thor. She hadn't expected him to get out of the hospital so soon, given that he had pretty much fallen from the sky, but hey -- he was supposed to be a god. Guess those kinds of things have bonuses.

"Hey!" she said, approaching him with a smile. "You're looking better."

To her credit, he did look pleased to see her again. The frustration of the day's search faded behind the recognition in his eyes, lips drawn into a welcome smile.

"I would hope so, it has been several days since you saw me last," he replied in an amused tone before moving her direction. The distance between them shrank rapidly, though he was the first to draw to a halt. It seemed he'd secured new clothing, since the hospital, whatever spare clothing from the donation bin that would fit and was clean...in this case a pair of well-worn jeans and a flannel jacket over a plain gray shirt. It gave him the appearance less of a viking god and more of a member of a Nordic grunge band, unfortunately, but free was free, and he'd needed something without a threatening amount of holes in it.

And there was something, always something just a little off. His stature, the set of his shoulders, that almost royal bearing despite his attire, something about it made it a bit easier to tell that he was no mere mortal man.

Member of a Nordic grunge band or not, it still wasn't too bad on him, all things considered. Not that Buffy was considering. It was just ... hard, given that there was so much of him.

Ahem.

Regardless, her smile widens as she comes to a stop in front of her. Another point about there being a lot of him -- there was a lot of looking up. Not that that threatened her in any sense of the word -- Buffy had to look up at everyone -- but still. Tall Norse God is tall.

"I was gonna swing by and see how you were doing, but -- apparently you found me first. Got bored being stuck in the hospital all day?"

"Your physicians are skilled. It is best their craft be left to those in need of it," he answered, eyebrows lifting. "Sitting idle waiting for another of them to attempt to draw blood did not suit me."

And after a healthy shout-off and Thor simply storming out, the doctors had had to concede.

"And I am beginning to think you, Buffy Summers, do not sleep."

It's a wise choice that they let Thor do what he wanted. After all -- it just wouldn't end well for them otherwise. "Fair enough," she nodded. "I'm not a big fan of them myself, but sometimes they're useful, when you need patching up."

"Sleep? What's that?" she teased, before shaking her head. "I sleep. I just don't do it when normal people do. I usually work the night shift."

"Such seems to be a dangerous line of work. The city grows more foreboding as the sun sets, and there is a great sense of unease here," Thor observed, glancing elsewhere to the alleys and street corners, dark and sinister as any such place in a corrupt city ought to be.

"You do so unaccompanied?"

"I've been doing it for a while. And I'm tougher than I look." Both of these very true things. Maybe not long in Thor's view of the world, but long enough in a human's. Some days it felt like she'd been doing it forever. "Believe it or not, back home I lead a whole army of girls like me. But here, it's just me." A pause. "And sometimes Faith."

Sometimes meaning that sometimes Faith worked with her and sometimes she didn't, but Faith still counted as a Slayer. She wasn't going to take that away from her -- she couldn't.

"I did not mean to imply otherwise..."

Thor's eyebrows lifted, brow furrowed. "You are a capable young woman, there's no question of that. You remind me of a friend in Asgard, in fact. One of my dearest. She too would think nothing of patrolling the streets for danger, as you do."

"I think I like her already." Either that, or there would be serious territory issues, but Buffy was preferring to think positive. It was just easier that way. And from the sound of things, Buffy would like her. "Or, I would. If she ever showed up here, which could happen. You never know with a city like this."

And now Buffy was rambling again.

"So what are you doing out here? Learning your way around?"

He nodded, gaze shifting about once more. "The streets are bewitched, I think. Traveling down one I seem to find myself where I started once more. A clever way of keeping us entrapped," he explained, that smile starting to fade ever so slightly.

"That wouldn't surprise me," she sighed, crossing her arms in front of her chest. "Magic seems to run rampant around here -- I'm pretty sure the city was created through it. It's what keeps it balanced between worlds."

Thor smirked at that, shaking his head.

"That is not the strangest part of all this, I admit. Magic is known well in my world...though I understand that mortals have continued in its study and call what they have mastered 'science', these days."

"My world has both -- magic and science. But they're a lot alike. It's all about balance and equal and opposite reactions -- or at least that's what I've learned from Willow. Me, not so much with the magic."

"It is about understanding the principles that govern the cosmos...those that do magic are very often of the highest intelligence, for this reason. My brother is this way...what he lacks in strength or a warrior's daring, he makes up for in his skill at tricking his opponents, creating illusions and spinning the very threads of reality to his whims." He paused at that, chuckling softly.

"Don't worry. I cannot say I am well-versed in magic, either. I have always preferred the more direct approach."

"Me too!" Buffy said with a grin. "I still maintain that most of the time, hitting it really hard works just as well."

... Yes, Buffy is prone to violence. A lot of violence. It's kind of her thing.

He laughed again at that, more heartily now, a deep rumbling noise. "As do I! My friends, the Warriors Three, are also of this mindset, as is Sif...together we have claimed many victories for Asgard, without the need for magic or trickery."

Of course there are just as many that Loki came in handy in, but that goes without mention for now.
