Oh yeah. I'm calling it Stargate Galactica for all the reasons you mention. It's eerie all the similarities, and yes, I'm watching, too.

I've not seen it but have heard it's eerily reminiscent of The Last Starfighter...

Yes. They are trying WAY too hard on the dark!Stargate. I'm still watching and hoping it smoothes out a lot.
