HOUSE SNONKSGOOD.

Jul 20, 2011 16:08

This is the house of Snonksgood. To the street it is a three story brownstone in Brooklyn, and distressingly plain. There is no neon in the single window, which does not allow a view of the inside; deep, dark green curtains obscure the inside of the shop. After all, quite a few of the potions and ingredients are heat and light-sensitive ( Read more... )

Andromeda is one of the few that can get past the heavily warded door, if only because she has to be able to get her food from the downstairs somehow. In this case, it's actually the middle of the day and Andromeda has come off a particularly long shift - she might be an experienced nurse, but she's still new enough at the hospital that the occasional 17-hour work day is still necessary along with the ability to work night shifts.

She yawns, pushing the door of the fridge shut with her hip once she's found the sweet, sweet pastries enclosed inside it.

"Are you about, Severus?" She feels like she's at least one of the people in the house that is old enough to be able to call him by his first name.

The only person who doesn't get an immediate glower, yes. But her daughter has squirreled away the same privilege by the right of being married to an Order colleague... in another time and place, anyway. These things herald a change from 'you were my student' to 'you were dumb enough to marry Lupin, whatever'.

The man in question emerges from the study; overcoat and cloak off, remarkably dressed down for a man that thrives on formality. But this is his home, even if it's shared with other people, and he's allowed.

"Are you pilfering the baked goods again?" he seems to be less than pleased with this, but frankly, cooking for others than himself has allowed him to explore more kitchen wizardry, so he can't really argue too much.

"If you'd rather, I could swoon right here in the middle of your kitchen and have you levitate me back to my suite," she says with an arched brow, putting the aforementioned scone down onto a plate so that she doesn't get crumbs all over the floor. Since Severus is here, she'll dine in the basement before she heads upstairs to bed.

Whether Severus wants to admit it or not, she's pretty sure he likes baking for the rest of the house.

"Why the devil would you swoon?"

They're not that good and he's not that good looking, so there's nothing swoon worthy in this basement.

"When I designed levicorpus that was not it's intended use, just so you're aware."

Lily has decided to pay her oldest friend a visit. It's a good day for that sort of thing, and she doesn't see enough of him. She's never actually been to his house, so she can't help but laugh when she sees "Lovesnonks" written there.

She knocks on the door, and waits. She hopes he's home. She hadn't thought to check before coming to visit.

Oldest in years, longer known -- it's a small honor, but it's Snape's.

Still, he rarely leaves and come evening once the shop is closed, he retreats downstairs to his lair. But he comes up to the ground floor door when a simple peek through his scry-finder lets him see who it is.

He honestly debates not going up -- but that'd be cowardly, and while Lily makes him many things, a coward will not be it today. He comes upstairs, looms in the doorway, and greets her with simply, "Lily. I hadn't expected you to call."

Ever.

That's sort of why he moved out of the MAC.

"Surprise." Lily offers, with a small smile. "I hadn't really expected it, either. It was more of a 'I should go say hi' sort of moment. So I'm saying hi."

This is the awkward moment where you realize you have no idea what to do. Where you stand there, feeling confused about what to do.

He never took her to his home. It was filthy and small and he was sure, sure that his father would call her a nasty name and perhaps even hurt her. And if there was anything that could put the fear in young Severus Snape it was the very idea of his father putting his hands on Lily Evans. It was the stuff of youthful nightmares.

"Come in," he finally says, as he thinks of all the things lurking about his door. Much less frightening then Tobias Snape was to his prepubescent self, but all the same, he can at least-- bring her inside. And. Talk to her. Maybe. "This is not the best neighborhood to stand on -- stoops. Such as the stoops are."

He pointed at the stairs; "I'm downstairs. The Tonks and Luna are upstairs. The mainfloor is dedicated to the shop."

There is a moment; something above the door glimmers--a flash of magic. A seeing eye spell. And then it blinks out. A moment later there is a man on the stoop.

He's a very familiar man, and no, it is not a coincidence that SNAPE is on the mailbox and SNAPE stands right there as expected.

He blinks only once, quirking one brow upward in mild surprise.

"Lucius," he says simply. "Good greeting. I see you've made it to the City in one piece."

He listens-- he worries now. Lucius is as arrogant as he was before Voldemort came into his home and humbled him greatly. This will take careful handling. A frown creates creases in his brow, but it slips away momentarily.

"I can't imagine what you mean," he says. "But before we go on -- come in, and I will treat you to passable, if home distilled, firewhiskey, and we can speak."

He gestures for the man to cross his threshold, come inside-- and heads downstairs. He rooms in the basement. Nobody is going to be surprised.

There are many things about this city that cause her concern - chiefly the fact that neither her husband or son appear to be here. The names on the mailbox are the first familiar ones to see, and although two of them make her uncomfortable (for the Lovegood she knew had been kept in her basement and tortured, and the Tonks was someone who had once been her sister) the third is enough for her to take note and pause.

She steps up to the door and lifts her hand to knock firmly.

Snape is just wrapping up things in the shop, and never, frankly, expects anyone socially. Still, he bets on it being Ron or Harry or Lily. He is surrounded by a pack of Gryffindors and while it is no surprise that the 'thinking' houses of Ravenclaw and Slytherin have gathered here...

Well, he's not expecting a new Snake at the door.

"Narcissa." He doesn't even know what to say at first. "Come in," is the natural answer, though.

She'd come because she'd seen the listing in the business directory, because she'd had to -- being in this strange city as she was.

She nods. "Severus. I had hoped none of your other ... roommates were going to answer." Narcissa steps over the threshold, glad to be out of the strangeness of the city and into some at least familiar-smelling rooms. "It is good to see you."

It sounds genuine, but he shouldn't be too surprised about that much.

"Ms. Lovegood is out -- communing with something or looking for ... whatever it is she believes it out there. Andromeda is likely eating breakfast, as she has a late night ER shift." He'll just go ahead and confirm all her suspicions. "They share a flat upstairs over the apothecary. I maintain one in the basement. Come in, I'll get some tea on before supper."

He leads her downstairs to his modest home, and to the kitchen where he puts the kettle on. Today a spicy curry simmers, and the house smells of saffron and tumeric.

It's a good, warm smell.
