last year i hoped to be more active by posting at least one entry per month and i wanted to be bolder with compositions and use of text. although i managed to make icons every month i sometimes failed in posting them on time - but that's okay i guess, what worried me was to kind of forget how to icon and that didn't happen! :p i haven't become a bolder maker, however. it feels like my compositions are even simpler than before? or in any case not as complex as i had in mind when i made the resolutions last year. as for text, i completely avoided it. i realised i'm not that good at placing it and i am too indecisive when it comes to choose fonts! therefore, i'm going to tone down a bit next year's resolutions: in 2018 i would like to refine my colouring skills (which means: more balanced use of gradients and maybe using other types of filters etc.?) and avoid flat looking icons. i would also like to get better at sharpening and smoothing and i truly need to avoid making TRASH icons as soon as possible :'D
last year I hoped to work on my technical side of things, like using textures, using bold colors and cutting more uniformly and using fake backgrounds more. I think I did accomplish it, but I still have to fix certain aspects of the technical aspects of iconning. I don't think I did thing I was afraid to do which was text work and complexity icons therefore, my new years resolution would be for: in 2018 Obviously work on my technical skills but not avoid the things I hate and work on my text work, blocking and complex icons. And post more in 2018, since I was not as productive in 2017.
in 2018 I'd like to make more icons in general and in a more relaxed way, without my self-imposed pressure of making them perfect, and just enjoy the creative process. I'd also like to be more active in the community overall and to participate in different challenges. Lastly, I think, I wanna try to avoid doing always what I think I'm good at and that I know I'll like the result, and instead I'd like to try new things and be surprised by the outcome. Step out of my comfort zone, so to speak.
- work my way back to the vibrant grungy paint look
- not always do the same thing
- try more different and more complex compositions
- try new techniques
- Keep working on my text skills
I think I only managed the last one. I am happy to say that text compositions were always easy for me now, and I tried lots of different things with text last year.
As to the vibrant grungy style - I didn't manage that. What I did instead is develop a completely new (for me) flat and pastel style with lots of manual coloring. I hadn't seen that coming, but it's not a bad thing. *g* I still look at other people's vibrant grunge with a wistful eye. Maybe I'll manage to incorporate that into my style again sometime.
All the rest... are pretty much exactly the complaints I still have right now. /o\
So my goals for 2018 are:- again: try more different and more complex compositions
( ... )
even though you didn't achieve some of your past goals, i believe you did wonderfully with the icons you created. they all are unique in shapes and colourings and compositions and at the same time your touch is very recognisable! :) ♥ best of luck with the new resolutions, i can't wait to see what you come up with!

Good luck with your resolutions for this year! Practical, technique-related resolutions are the most likely to be attainable. You can do it!
