Ugh, I love lists and resolutions but I never follow through. Hopefully, this will be a wee bit different.
my three step process for icon success:
1. Make more icons! - I'll try to participate in more challenges, instead of 20in20's since I always rush my 20in20 icons. - "Quality over Quantity" Don't make shitty icons. Make a few good ones. - STOP ICONING TV SHOWS THAT YOU'VE ALREADY ICONED MULTIPLE TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Like what I did with Suits this year) - Save PSD's
2. Improve - Look at more tutorials - Learn about PS and its' features - Use better coloring and textures - Find a style. Don't just see that one cool icon and try to copy whatever that iconist did. Create your own thing. - More text!!! Text is awesome so learn how to use it!
3. Be more active - Make more regular posts to your comm so that people might actually see what you're doing instead of a 40-60 icon post every few months - More inspiration posts + praise - Leave more comments! Comments are ♥
You have a really good strategy planned here! Hope you'll have a lot of fun and success with these steps :) your steps for 'improve' sound really good, especially the first one - I seriously wish I had more time for tutorial reading, every time I take a look at one it's a real eye-opener, I've learned so much from them but sadly it's been a while since I've read any.
I love tutorials! I've learned so much from looking at what other people do to make their icons and even the simple AtM posts about people's favorite textures are great too!
AtM posts are my favorites too, I remember back in 2012 I used to go through them in order one by one, just reading them and seeing what I could do with the advice, and amost of the time when I started reading I was like 'ohmygod I can't, this is way beyond my skills why am I even here' but then i tried anyway and usually learned something really useful :) I miss those days, maybe this year I'll take a look at a few atm posts again.
HOW AWESOME IS YOUR PROCESS? Seriously. I am super in love with this.
I totally hear you on the iconing favourite shows. I've always fallen into that rut, so hopefully 2015 is the year for both of us to break the habit! That being said, there are far worse fandoms you could choose to icon than Suits, so that a positive spin on it!
Thank you for the luck - I'll need it :) And yeah, Suits isn't the worst show. But, I've merged into OUaT and I stopped watching the show more than a year ago so IDK what's going on with that.
It's really a good idea to save PSD's. Especially if you made an icon you really like. I tend to save mine, so I can go back and see what I did to make those icons. I color all mine from scratch and they rarely use the same settings. XD
