It's still Pod Aware, did you really think you'd get through a whole day without a post from me?

Every podficcer has an accent; sometimes that accent matches that of the canon character, sometimes it doesn't. Every accent is special and brings something to the podfic, it represents the podficcer and reminds us just how diverse fandom can be. Come celebrate accents and learn more about them in podfic at pod_aware on LJ or DW.Today, on this theme of ( Read more... )

I feel particularly lucky that both you and lunate8 recognized and approached me at that con. And now we have our own local podficcer commune. ♥

You should ask fishpatrol how she and I got to hanging out in person, one day. It's a good story.

really enjoyed listening to this, and i think the inception voices sounded good without accents (actually they did sound a bit accented, so - you tricked me with that).

Hah, I'm glad the sort-of-not-really-accented-charachter-voices thing worked for you! Thanks ^^

Aww, you said nice things about me! *blushes*

Also, about accents in foreign languages: you could check out mine and tinypinkmouse's Swedish podfics if you're curious--we have totally different accents. Hers is a gorgeous Finnish-Swedish accent. *swoons* She recorded one of my stories and it made me so happy!

Podficcing in Swedish feels totally weird for me, though, because I almost never do it.

Interesting podcast!! Random question, though, the Last.fm scare sounds interesting/frightening. Do you have any links to conversations about it?

Glad you enjoyed it!

RE: The Last.fm Scare, the big, relevant posts are here--[ 1] [ 2] [3]

The CliffNotes version is that basically, pandarus found info (title/author) about her podfics listed on the site Last.fm--a site that tracks user music listening patterns by recording metadata, and uses that to "intelligently" suggest new music--with a "preview"/"buy" option, right alongside a bunch of legit music. Not understanding what the shit was going on, she had a minor freakout (which, given the info she had, was pretty reasonable), thinking that someone had uploaded her podfic without her permission to a non-fannish space. Other people started freaking out in reaction to her post, and then people who actually understood how Last.fm worked stepped in and explained that actually, the podfics themselves WEREN'T available on Last.fm, just the metadata. A lot of people still weren't happy that metadata with their usernames attached was available in a non-fannish space, but given that no audio was actually available (unless someone went googling and ( ... )

It did answer my question, thanks for the links. It's a very interesting question, and one I would think about before recording anything.

Can I ask another question? Who read the J2 podfic with the Texas accent? I'd LOVE to hear it, and am coming up blank with who it might be.
