This was thought provoking, thank you! You are very staunch in Wilson's defence. :) It's true that House gets all the breaks in terms of other people making excuses for him and protecting him from the consequences of his own behavour. There is just one observation I would like to make and that's that I think Wilson needs others to rely on him and that when they no longer do, he gets bored with them. That's why his marriages don't work, once he's nurtured the fragile self-esteem of Bonnie for example. There's no fear of him ever getting bored with House since he's irreparable, or so it seems. Amber was a departure and sadly, we won't find out exactly what he saw in her personality that called out (despite all appearances to the contrary) "need" to him. Just dropping by to add my twopennorth, hope you don't mind!
Well actually, he loved Amber for similar reasons to why he loves House, they have several similarities after all lol
BUT I'll be ready to bet a lot of my possessions that the Wilber love started when she had just been fired and was crying and Wilson saw yet another woman to save xD But Wilson's right, she wasnt needy, she was in a tough situation. :)
Oh, man, I love this show. Love how every character is so screwed up in their own ways. Wilson with his ignorance of his own personal issues, Cuddy with her guilt complex, Cameron with her need to 'fix' people, Chase with his daddy issues, Foreman with his pride, 13 with her self-destructiveness, CTB with her need to 'prove herself', Kutner with his idealism, Taub with his cowardlyness, and House... is House. They're all so flawed. It's beautiful. And real. Because reality is flawed.
"How about when niceness causes you to write pain medicine prescriptions that keep your best friend from ever facing his real medical problems, his emotions, and eventually cause the recipient to hallucinate? Wilson could not say no, and a really good friend who was confident in himself would have forced the issue in a meaningful way

As Wilson has a need for the needy, I have a thing for screwed-up-ness. I just love Wilson so much. ♥
