I think that he bought it for House because making House happy makes him happy. And I do think that it was a way to show House that he belonged there. I sort of think that Wilson is sort of commitment phobic- which I'll admit is odd for a person married 3 times.
I think that he Wants to be able to commit- but just can't seem to for some reason. I think that showed through with the furniture buying- he liked it when the salesperson said "daring"- but as soon as she said that it was an outdoor piece he freaked. He didn't want to "do it the wrong way". He didn't know what he wanted to say about himself other than that he wanted House to be in the house enjoying music.
