I got the news on Miss Lucy today, she has lymphosarcoma. It can be treatable by chemotherapy, but it's generally not curable. She was still perky this morning after getting some pain medicine, so I got her a Prednisone shot, but the vet isn't in favor of aggressive treatment at her age ( Read more... )

Prednisone can work wonders, but as you say, it is for the short term. I am sure I don't have to tell you this, but keep an eye on how much she drinks, because I have noticed that cats who use prednisone sometimes forget to drink enough.

Thank you for letting me know that. Even though she perked up, I'm afraid the Prednisone didn't take away the pain, so I let her go. It was peaceful and quick. I'm back home hugging my Cleo. Hugs to your Dorus too.

I am thinking of you and praying for Lucy. It's hard when they get old to know what to do. I had a black lab that was always in pain from degenerative joint disease. Towards the end she held her legs out sideways and cried all the time, no matter how much dope I gave her. I had to put my beloved family member down at the ripe old age of 14. My kids, when very small, used to ride her and she was always stealing their toys. It was horrible and to this day makes me sad. I would make her as comfortable as possible and enjoy her playfulness and energy and love for as long as I could, until, at last, it is time to say good bye.

I am thinking of you, dear one, and hoping for the best.

I'm so sorry about your doggie. It hurts so much to see them in pain, and Lucy fought every dose of medicine and fluids. It wasn't going to get better, so we sent her to sleep today. I'm sure I'll miss her terribly, but it's easier now than it was leading up to the decision, watching her fade. She still gave me love, but her playfulness was gone, her energy dimming. She let me know it was time.
