wow, talk about serendipity... I've just watched it last night, with Rob Cooper's commentary (which is, understandably, heavily focused on directing, lights, lenses, production issues, locations etc). Still, he mentions Joe's "notes on the script" - as he calls them - which led to him (Coop) writing additional scenes. Well, Joe asked him why would McKay trusted this Sheppard he never knew, so a backstory scene was added (McKay meeting another AU Sheppard, with a more visible hero streak). I didn't remembered this
( ... )
A funny coincidence, indeed! I like watching episodes with commentaries too - I especially enjoy the ones done by Martin Gero.
Joe was talking about that "finger bit" at one of the cons as well... hehehe. It happened at his house, he had to take that poor woman to the hospital - and later she married that guy whose dog bit her finger off, by the way.... must have been love at first sight :)
"I'm not really a fan" :) That's one of my favourite lines too! :)
What a perfect way to start the day! Wow ... such gorgeous caps of a gorgeous man. This episode is so beautifully filmed and acted. So sad that it was the last really great episode of the series. ((wants to cry)).
Maybe you could change your mind? I know it is Teyla-less but... it is REALLY worth watching. Vegas is my third favourite episode of SGA, right after The Last Man and Adrift. I've seen it probably 20 times. Joe was amazing, and I mean AMAZING! So different from our regular Sheppard but yet so similar. There are scenes that make you cry and laugh. Great script, very good directing, interesting camera work - amazing lighting (creating incredible mood) and one of its kind soundtrack! My phone has had the same alarm for 2 years (Johny Cash, Solitary Man -from this episode)
They made this episode into a real masterpiece - my caps can show you only that much... And there's so much more in this episode that can certainly make up for the lack of Teyla :)
Vegas screencaps and dialoguelouise3anneJanuary 30 2011, 15:30:31 UTC
One of my favourite eps, b/c it showed so much ! of Sheppard, + a different side to him. I think the story was a good, strong one to begin with, and made better by Joe's suggestions. (I've watched it w. commentary too) Joe seriously does put a lot of thought into his character and performance. I don't know if I'm prejudiced, but it seems to me that SGA is one of the best, most beautifully shot(director, camera, sets, lighting, makeup, sctors, + whatever other jobs there are that make a production great) (altho the writing was a little light sometimes, there was always some scene in each ep that made it worthwhile)(genius) scifi series I've ever seen. I miss it, but it is an inspiration. :)

I totally agree! I couldn't put it better myself :)
It's Vegas, baby! Yeah! You know what you have done to me with this great picspam and all of these wunderful quotes? God, I love this episode, I really, really love it! JF did such a great work with playing Sheppard this way. Half of the time you want to shake him and the other half you want to hug him. God, I'm sitting here with such a big and stupid grin you cannot imagine. Yeah, it's Vegas, it's my personal episode. Thank you sooo much for this. So great, such a gorgious Shep, such ... *sigh*. I'm in heaven! And thank you for quoting the "Spearmint"-reply. It's my favorite line in this episode. I love the way JF is acting in that scene, but especially in this moment. God, this really makes my day!
I'm VERY happy that I managed to put that "stupid grin" on your face! :)
*hugs Hyn*
"Spearmint" reply... "I was joking." 'No you weren't" always gives me shivers! And that scene when John stands in front of Todd, kind of hypnotized and McKay's "They can get in your head." I've seen these few seconds 7825425 times! Wow... There are lots of such short brilliant scenes in this episode.
Yes, your examples are all great. I also love the way, Shep quit his job without a single word, his look after the wraith felt from the building and stood up and ran away. As you've said there are so much more scenes in this episode. LOL 7825425 times? Sounds like me.
