This entry is about the lyrics to the song "Jesusland" by NOFX.Perhaps they do apply to a few hundred sensationalized individuals, but certainly NOT to all fundamental Christians

It is quite ironic how Christianity is all about love and yet we are called hate-filled for trying to help. I admit, there are many Christians out there who give quite a bad name to the others, but when one takes Christianity truly fundamentally, he/she should realize that it's about true freedom and redemption. There are ways of missioning that aren't exactly as fruitful as possible, but when it comes right down to it, it is always the individual's choice to turn away and make hasty judgments or to sit down and listen

Sounds like a shitty 'punk' statement, picking on Christianity simply because if they attacked any other religion (islam, judaism) P.C folks would be down on them like a second.
NoFx/Fat Mike has pretty extreme views on christianity. I'd tend to take them/him with a grain of salt.
In regards to your final statement, I think both sides have extremes in which neither are open minded to the other side's point of view. However, in the end most people find themselves somewhere in the grey area. But the two extremes are just the most vocal about their views.
oh, and dont you think that this song is more aimed towards those who ARE full of hate, as opposed to those who are not? Why would I aim something at someone who is not.
This has nothing to do with you, your beliefs, or the beliefs of those you are involved with/practice with/ have the same morals as you. This is towards those in the very small Baptist-sect (a fucking cult if you ask me) who stand outside the graves of young soldiers who have died saying they will burn in hell. These are directed towards the people who are described in the song, NOT you.
Oh my gosh, like that crazy woman that was all over the news lately? Ugh! It is sickening! That is what I mean by "Christians" giving bad names to other Christians. I just don't understand it!
That woman is disgusting and is not following the teachings of Christ. My problem with NOFX is that they generalize Christians. It perpetuates the negative stereotype of Christians that media so enjoy to portray. My problem with those kinds of surface-level clichéd lyrics is that it pushes people away from Christ. It doesn't represent Christianity in its true light.
If NOFX made some time to discuss their lyrics, and how those types of people DO NOT represent Christianity, I'd be okay with it. Why not speak out against people like that?
However, NOFX does not do anything of the sort, like "redfromromance" (Julianne) said.
I didn't think that you were thinking of me when you posted that entry. I'm just frustrated that people see lyrics like that, combined with horrible people like that woman on TV, and think poorly of Christianity.
Fat Mike/NOFX are known for saying really hurtful things about Christians; not only pointing out their supposed mice-of-the-Pied-Piper way of life, but also it's rumoured that Underoath actually left Warped Tour because of the things that Fat Mike said about them and Christains in general. I don't think it's appropriate (nor is it constructive) to call anyone a Bible-thumper.
In response to the phrase "It's a SONG", many argue that the main objective of true punk music is to get a point across; the lyrics found in punk songs is a reflection of the writers' opinions and the songs get their messages out to the public. NOFX definitely has an agenda behind their music.
I think your point is completely valid and I definitely agree with you.
