As far as I can see you can't drive if you aren't in possession of your provisional licence. I looked under sending your licence off information and it says you need to be a qualified driver to drive while not in possession of your licence but check with your driving instructor.

When you pass and get your real licence make sure you keep the paper bit safe as it is very important.
