Those who believe that "if military deaths in Iraq exceed 9/11 then the war is a failure" are assuming that the only goal of going to war is revenge. They miss the important point that weakening, or defeating a foe makes him less capable (or incapable) of attacking oneself again. Also, it makes other foes less eager to attempt similar attacks against one.

I've recently considered writing a story about cloning that takes place almost 500 years from now. In the story, the military force is so pushed to the breaking point by an alien race (whom I won't talk about much since they are really just a tool to make the scenario plausible) that the Government at the time starts nationalizing (correct term?) private cloning companies in order to produce modified clones for use as soldiers. I thought of this because with all the talk about things like stem cell research where life is created just to be used for spare parts that a human rights revolution wasn't far away and that is the crux of the story, where (if we should in the first place) draw the line between human rights and the rights of clones. Does it sound interesting?

I saw Bicentennial Man as well and I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was a shame it flopped.
