[For Glen]

Jane tugged her coat tighter about her body as she progressed and walked from her home to Mr. Bateman's, the knowledge burning in her mind as to what Lloyd had said to her. As Glen got up from his makeshift desk, he tossed his pen aside and plunked a stone down on top of the papers he'd been working on. He went to the door with a smile on his face, knowing who it was, and pleased because of it, but wary of the slight urgency he heard in her voice. Jane could hardly bear to restrain herself once she saw that he was both well and so concerned for both herself and Lydia. She would apologize deeply for it later, she was sure, but for the moment she surged forward to wrap her arms tightly around Mr. Bateman, wishing that she did not feel such an utter and horrid guilt for what she had done.

"I am so glad to see you are well," she spoke, voice hoarse with her emotions. "I worried so, though I had no reason to think otherwise."

Glen couldn't hide his surprise at this unusual display for the normal calm and strictly comported Jane. The expression stayed on his face even as he stepped back a pace and enfolded her gently, patting her hair.

It took him a minute to find his voice, but when he finally did he asked, "Jane, whatever is the matter? You act like you've had a bit of a scare." His arm stayed loose around her and he continued to stroke her hair in a comforting gesture.

Jane indulged in the warmth before she might ease back and look at him directly, bowing her head. "I cannot stop having such terrible nightmares," she admitted. "Ever since I have been told of what happened to you, of what...of what Lloyd did to you, I cannot sleep but for the images in my head."
