TV, crime fighting, and fic

1. Tonight's episode of The Chicago Code was the weakest so far but still enjoyable. There was a greater focus on the crime solving, rather than the corruption, so maybe that was it. But there were still a lot of excellent character moments and I continue to love the relationship between Jarek and Teresa. You really get a sense of the history ( Read more... )

Totally unrelated to your post, but I love your icon. It's nice to log on to LJ and see Lynda Day staring out at me. :o)

Heh, thanks! I didn't have an icon for the fandom I originally logged on to discuss so I used Lynda. Sadly, I don't get more opportunities to feature her.

I really, really like this AU of A/A. I found your fic in my ahem, lurking and I like how their characters translate well into this scenario. I can easily read and see them here and wow, they rock. Thanks for sharing the fic. I really enjoyed the surprise :)

And thanks too for that snippet on Byron's daughter. The things you learn everyday--and unexpectedly! :D

Thank you! That A/A came surprisingly easy. What I really want to read is them as academics solving an Agatha Christie-esque mystery, preferably on a train and preferably while they both wear glasses, but I don't have the time to write it.

Ada is so fascinating, you couldn't make her story up. Her mother really did everything she could to drive out any potential "Byron madness", but Ada still resembled her father in quite a few ways. She had a bit of a gambling problem and may have had some sort of mental illness, was possibly bi-polar. She tried to find a way to cure herself, which probably owes a lot to her mother.

It's such a shame she didn't live longer. She might have contributed so much more. As it was, the development of the computer didn't really take off for another 99 years.

Thanks for the insight into Ada Lovelace. With a name like that, it's good to hear that she lived up to it. I've also bookmarked the webcomic linked up there and will go though it eventually :) Thank you!

ADA LOVELACE. oh man, i love ada lovelace. and thanks for linking to that comic! i've not read it in ages. have you ever read The Difference engine by William Gibson?

that gilmore girls fic is cracking me up.

in other news, i was shocked this season to find myself being totaly OMG DAN AND BLAIR, AWESOMESAUCE, since before i was a dyed-in-the-wool blair/chuck shipper. maaaaaan, the dan and blair crimefighting friendship show is so good.

I haven't read The Difference Engine but I really want to. This comic has rekindled my Ada love so I think I'm going to have to track down everything tangentially related to her.

I'm glad you find the Gilmore Girls fic funny because it seemed funny to me when I could hear Michel's voice in my head but I don't think it translates to the page unless you know he's a sneering Frenchman. But I didn't want to write out his dialogue all "I dooo not 'ave time for your leeetle jokes, Lorelai." I kind of want to read fic about every other character on Gilmore Girls solving crimes too. It could be a Stars Hollow thing! I bet Rory would make an excellent Watson to Paris's Sherlock.

*sigh* I miss that show.

Isn't The Dan and Blair Show the greatest? I've seen so many Chuck/Blair fans say exactly the same thing. I enjoyed Chuck and Blair in the first season but they became too twisted for me after he was re-conceived as a romantic lead after being the troublemaker. Dan and Blair are just magical together. He isn't so sanctimonious! She isn't ( ... )

I am writing this right now! Except it's not very noir! And it won't be very long! But there will be wigs! Maybe!

Thank you! It came together surprisingly well, I almost want to write more. I was very much thinking of the scene in your icon.

"Uh, Waldorf? Why are we at Burberry?

"If we're going to open a detective agency together, then you need a trench coat," she tells him matter-of-factly.

Ahaha... of course.

I've been really impressed with the quality of the writing, pacing, and acting of The Dan and Blair Show.

Right? Who could have predicted it? BUILD-UP is not what anyone's come to expect from this show and these writers. The bickering, bantery, supportive friendship is so cuuute! And it's canonically made Blair happy! (So it must be doomed.)

I will definitely try The Chicago Code when it airs here, if not before. Your campaign is working, OKAY? ;)

Trench coats are integral to crime fighting! I firmly believe this!

BUILD-UP is not what anyone's come to expect from this show and these writers. The bickering, bantery, supportive friendship is so cuuute! And it's canonically made Blair happy! (So it must be doomed.)

God, I know! How long does it normally take Serena to fall in love with her latest sap? Half an episode? The pacing for Dan/Blair has been nothing short of wonderful. And I love that they bring out each other's best qualities instead of their worst, like Dan/Serena and Chuck/Blair.

But, yes. So, so doomed. I need to shore up the foundations of that pocket universe where everything is beautiful and nothing is Chuck.

I will definitely try The Chicago Code when it airs here, if not before. Your campaign is working, OKAY? ;)

HUZZAH!
