Man Fail

So there's some moron somewhere on the Internet who whined about how Science Fiction is a man's genre (as demonstrated by classic scifi books/shows where Men Do Things(tm) and there isn't any of that icky Relationship stuff) and the wimmins and gayzors need to Get Out. Which prompted me to create my first ever macro:

I've seen that post. It's kind of retarded.

I'd never seen a picture of Butler before, but it fits nicely.

Do you have a recommended starting place for Butler? I picked up something of hers a while back and just didn't get into it. Can't even remember what it was.

I have to admit, the only thing I've ever read by her was Dawn, which scared the living hell out of my 10-year-old self. She's on my list of authors to grab at the used book store in Arlington, but she's too popular - I haven't found any yet.

I have some of her stuff, if you want to borrow it.

This is what I get for not following the link. I have the complete Xenogenesis trilogy in one book, so I forget the names of the individual books.

(I don't really claim SF as a genre I'm fond of, but I definitely understand the frustration of assholes liking the same stuff you like.)

I'm an atheist, but some of my Christian friends have said the same thing to me.

I was reading an angry thread about how a new line of Marvel-inspired clothing didn't depict any female superhero. They listed off 5 or 6 women that they wanted to see added to the line of clothing, and not one of them was a Marvel character.

Huh, all the reactions I've read re:that line of clothing include suggestions of Marvel female superheros (as confirmed by my companion, a major comic book geek; he had some suggestions of his own as well, of course). So that seems really weird to me. Also off-topic (I understand the urge to respond to male stupidity with female stupidity to "even things out", but it's not actually a good idea in practice).

I apologize. I wasn't trying to even anything out. I saw them as the same core problem: criticizing something you don't actually know anything about.
