SURPRISE!! Not dead.

Where have I been?

Well, the short version is that RL has consumed my…uh L. The long version: I spent last spring and summer swamped with all the preparation to transfer to another school across the country for a year-long exchange. I also was taking summer courses.

Then I transferred and ended up taking a 21 hour course load. ( Read more... )

Robot Anne Robertson vs. rolling cylindrical robots armed with a plunger and an egg beater? The rolling cans that scream EXTERMINATE over an over, pausing dramatically for seconds on end instead of just getting on with the killing? My first thought actually was something along the lines of “What the hell were the writers smoking when they wrote this?” My second was, “What is the population of Great Britain smoking that they’ll actually watch this and take it seriously?” I was alternating between laughing my head off and cringing at just how BAD it was.

Ha, if you thought the new Daleks were cheesy with their plungers and egg beaters then hon you haven't seen nothing yet until you've seen the Daleks in the orginal series LOL!

Yeah, I've seen little bits and pieces from old-Who, and I'm not really inclined to watch it. The cheese-factor of new-Who has raised my tolerance level considerably, but I think if I ever watched the classic series, my brain might implode.

I grew up watching the original series as a kid so I am used to the cheese-factor of the original Daleks and other aliens. If you think your brain would implode don't watch the original series because there's a cheesefest though by not watching you'll never see my all favorite Doctor (#4).

Like you, I never understood the appeal. The whole concept didn't make sense to me in the old series for me to bother with it. But then my flist exploded with Who-ness, and I was feeling in the dark. So I watched them, in order. Sure, there were parts that made me cringe (farting aliens... seriously?) but then you think about it... this show isn't trying to take itself seriously. It doesn't profess to be a "drama", but it delivers the elements of a good show nevertheless. It is an adventure; appropriate for children and adults alike, and somehow manages to deliever an emotional punch. How many shows can do all of those things?

David Tennant of course, is completely stunning, and while I started with Nine (Eccleston) and *knew* that he was finishing at the end of S1, I was utterly convinced the moment he uttered "new teeth, that's weird". I was hooked from then. Killer polar bears couldn't have kept me away.

Smith and Jones is one of my favourite episodes too. It doesn't get much love, but I think it is a perfect intro ( ... )

Exactly. I understood that when he gave the Lion King line, and from then on, I cut the show a lot of slack in the serious/plausible suspension of disbelief department.

Yes, yes he is.

I was utterly convinced the moment he uttered "new teeth, that's weird". I was hooked from then. Killer polar bears couldn't have kept me away.

I unfortunately didn't get to see the Children in Need episode until after I'd seen all of season 2, so my first introduction to 10 was TCI, so it took me a little longer to get hooked.

Oh yes. Who requies a lot of suspense in belief while watching, but hey, it is fun! The Doctor is hot! It has so much going for it!

The Childen in Need episodesis adorable and I just loved TCI. Even though Ten was hardly in it, the moment he utters "did you miss me?" makes the whole thing worth it. And when he saves Rose from the Christms tree. *love*

Everything in Smith and Jones to me is so *right*. The Doctor is charming and amusing as he is trying to win Martha over. Martha is intelligent and competent and has the right amount of skepticism. It is a great intro into Who-verse (much like Rose was), but enough adventure to drive the plot and be intrigued.
