Here are the few drabbles I've written this week for
writing_game, starring Severus and Barbie. This one is my favorite:
&&&&&&
Barbie could see that Severus was more than a bit apprehensive at the idea of introducing her to his old friends, the Malfoys. He had told her that they were old aristocracy, and very strict about manners and behaviour. But she had perfect manners and behaviour, and had already met royals before, so she couldn't see the problem.
They arrived on time for tea, settled in the drawing room, and started chatting amicably together, exchanging shampoo tips and hairdressers addresses, among other things. Severus relaxed. He had dreaded for a time that Barbie and Lucius would be very competitive about who had the best hair.
&&&&&&
Severus has always liked his solitary walks. After dinner, he strolls around in the countryside at a brisk pace, his mind hard at work on the problems at hand. He thinks better on his feet, that's a fact. When he comes back, he is ready for a productive evening in his lab or his office.
But now, he discovers the pleasure of sharing his walks with someone, someone he cares for. When Barbie comes with him, his steps are slower, and his mind is at peace. She has taught him to relax, and to enjoy the scenery as well as the company.
&&&&&&
He hears her enter the room, but pretends he doesn't. His face still turned towards his book, he discreetly observes her moving around the room, with her graceful movements, and silent steps. She deposits a vase of freshly cut flowers on a table, and takes a step back, to judge of their effect. Satisfied, she turns around, and deliberately approaches her husband. Laying her hands on his shoulders, she gives him a chaste kiss on the cheek, smiles, and walks out of the room without a single word. Let it not be said that Muggles don't have their own kind of magic, he thinks.
&&&&&&
It had been a great act of confidence, or at least, that is how she interpreted it, for Severus to let Barbie carte blanche to furnish and decorate their house.
Money wasn't to be a problem, she was quite wealthy, and he had patented a few potions over the years that provided him with a comfortable income, and time to delve into research at last. But she knew that his tastes were much more sober than hers, and she showed a great deal of restraint in her choices. Exactly as her Slytherin husband had expected her too…
&&&&&&
Before, he would have found it childish and ridiculous. He would have pitied a friend going sentimental when reading a note from his mistress. But when the clerk from the hotel help-desk gave him a message from Barbie along with his room keys, he smiled seeing the little stars she couldn't help adding after her signature, for she had once explained him the very special message they conveyed.
