I really did laugh at that line: Rory manages to distract the Doctor with a game of chess using tiny magnetic pieces (more accurately, he manages to distract the Doctor by starting a game of chess with tiny magnetic pieces that move on their own, and succeeds because the Doctor then finds it necessary to take it apart and study it because he’s never seen one before).
I can see the Doctor being so nervous and killing time like that. Well done! :)

I don't think it's necessarily out of character for River and the Doctor to have children, though I don't necessarily think they'd go about it intentionally (at least not the first one and, well, we all know that the TARDIS seems to have a thing against contraception). I guess it really depends on how they're written as reacting to it and how they handle it in general--I'm glad you think I've done a believable job of that :)
