I LOVED your previous fics; and this one still manages to surprise and delight.

I LOVE THIS FIC SO MUCH.

I am especially fascinated by the composing stuff. I've really never read anything that made the act of writing an opera so vivid to me.

Thanks!

Have you read a lot of things about writing operas? I just figured it's probably a lot like the process of writing any long narrative, with all of the freak outs and back and forth that this involves.

Heh. No, I haven't read a lot. But still, somehow you are making the whole thing incredibly vivid and real to me.

I wonder what the contract is? Surely not something as petty as a bet with Mycroft. John totally didn't notice that Vernet just agreed that any benefit from the love themes was to his credit, did he? And I suspect Vernet increasing writhes with the desire to prove himself one of John's decent men, without having his birth or past to do it with. Thank you for another chapter, I'm enjoying it.

John doesn't notice a lot of things. As for Vernet, it's less decency and more the need for respect and admiration.

Thanks for reading!

Christine is a very passive character, and while that works to show how the stress and terror is breaking her, it's definitely not John (not that some ravishing wouldn't go amiss here, dress or no).

I'm already to that point I reach when reading your stories where I'd like everything to just be okay for them and the bad things that I know must be coming wouldn't happen.

Dude, that was fast. There are 14 chapters left. I'm not sure you're going to make it. Is this because of the tension in the story or because you're familiar with how my stuff goes?

Mrs. Hudson's hip self-heals and she brings the Can-can to the London stage!

Best surprise ending ever. Sadly, not the one planned.

"Vernet scowls. “I can’t write the romantic idiot without it becoming a blatant parody.”"

It's great that John's on hand to help then!

Such a lot happens in your chapters; such a lot to think about and wonder about . . . and the conversations back-and-forth are fantasticallly written, with just the right intonation. Some humour, too, which never goes amiss!

John is a very sincere romantic idiot when he wants to be.

Thanks!
