I wrote some 1000 words my Firefly Simon&River scene last night. Which means that it's finished! I'm on such a completion-high right now... The scene can hold up as a one-shot, so it's postable and everything. (I did write a scene leading up to it, but it's only necessary if I ever write the whole Jayne-fic I've got on the backburner

It seems likely that your memory has (and this seems somewhat appropriate) transformed a river into an island. In Greek mythology, the river Lethe, in Hades, caused people to forget who they were. Drinking from it was the pivotal moment in the process of reincarnation, allowing you to start your next life anew.

Actually, you're not wrong about the island either. Odysseus runs into the Lotophagi, who eat lotuses, lounge around and forget who they were and what they were doing. But the island doesn't have a name.
