This makes me laugh - CBC's priorities on their home page

I'm carefully scanning CBC news to keep track of the progress of the cold weather in my first homeland.

So I go to the homepage, cbc.ca....and find that the cold weather is actually world news, not national news. Bad weather is happening in the US, eh? so we'd better cover it, sort of.

But the hockey, well, the Canadian hockey team gets double ( Read more... )

The weather here has shown an excess of snow compared to the norm. I still consider it pretty shrug-worthy, but I guess there's a difference between the woods where I grew up and these plains.

Temperature-wise... again, meh. Some days have been cold, some warm. Annoying, because it causes all the snow drifts to turn into chunks of ice, but otherwise not an issue. Ontario had it worse, and coupled with the power outage in Toronto made for a sad holiday season for many people.

There has been quite a few traffic incidents, mostly because there's no law to have winter tyres fitted and people are driving like ... people.

So I can see why Canada isn't too impressed by the weather.

Ha ha, I was thinking just the other day that it's odd how every weather thing seems to be in the news now. Is it warm out? Cold out? WOW, THAT'S EXCITING! Temps of -40? Happen every year, but NOW IT'S NEWS. Gosh, I never knew that weather was so exciting.

(the caps were there to show fake excitement/ sarcasm)

But that's me being snarky. =)

I never thought of how nice it would be to read about the weather if you lived away from home, so thank you for offering that perspective. =) I would totally want to too, if I lived elsewhere and missed Canada.

-40 is a novelty in Toronto, believe me. Certainly to be getting bitter cold in TO, and melting slush in Ottawa at the same time. Very weird.

And yes, I miss the weather: seasons that behave like seasons, and each one is different. London is dominated by grey skies, year round, and I miss fall colours, a lot.

Also my mum is outside TO, and I want to make sure she still has power and can get groceries. So far so good.
