Blackwater "Security" Company finally kicked-out of Iraq, by Iraq.
Compare articles, it's very interesting.

A few years and a few killings too late, don't you think?

Still, better now than never.

Also, shut up, Condoleeza. Just shut up. If you were serious about investigating them, you'd have done so years ago. You're probably just upset that the Iraqi ( Read more... )

It's almost like unaccountable, private mercenary security forces are becoming a BAD thing. thatboomerkid_1 September 18 2007, 09:22:33 UTC
When I watch uncensored videos of some of the shit that goes on in Iraq, like (no blood, don't worry):

and then consider the social/psychological impact of this paranoia-inducing violence on young people, both native and imported, I start to wonder how long we'll be paying for this war.

Not to name names, but I'm quite good friends with a young lady, an Air Force mechanic, who can't go to 4th of July celelbrations because she starts to hyperventilate - and her base has never even been hit.

I love playing ultra-violent games (role-playing and video alike) as much as the next guy, but what are the REAL traumatic consequences of constant ambushes and bombings and groups like Blackwater operating under the radar?

I thought IED was shorthand for Improvised Explosive Device.

That shnizzit doesn't look particularly "Improvised" to me.

Peel back the propaganda, and you notice we're actually involved in a war.

My vote: let Iraq try the guys while we bomb their fortress in North Carolina, seeing as they are operating a military base on U.S. soil without our permission, which is an act of war.

Plus, it means we get to fight the Christian Right vs. Everyone Else civil war while we still massively outnumber them.

I'm not disagreeing with your principle, but the "redneck NRA enthusiast" and "trained themselves" comments I think are a little off. I looked into Blackwater's employment requirements a while back, just out of curiousity. They require three years of active military combat experience, or experience with a major metropolitan SWAT team (as well as physical standards that make my police academy standards look like high school PE). This is nothing like your normal "mall security" guards. These are the companies that hire up the retired special forces guys and cops with "specialized" skill sets. These guys are "civillians" in name only. actually, a lot of the cops that are over there are still sworn officers, but they've taken a year leave of absence (to make anywhere from $100-200k for that year, tax free if they spend 340 or more days outside of the US.) I see the main issue here as being that you're taking guys that have been trained and cultivated into being aggressive, deadly precise fighters, and they're assigned with no real ( ... )

Yeah...its incredibly easy to insult what I don't fully understand. Granted they may have some hardcore requirements and their people may be really well trained. I just don't think that its appropriate too use them in a volatile warzone. You make a good point of addressing several of the reasons why this is so.
