The neighbour across the hall just came over to tell us the floor has bed bugs and to watch out, and now I'm itchy all over the place. Wretched. Only I have one of those mattress covers I never, ever take off except to wash, only now maybe never ever, so I'm hoping for the best

We had bed bugs in our old apartment. If you keep your mattress sealed, you don't have as much to worry about, but you'll see tiny blood spots on your sheets around your shoulders if you have them.

It usually needs to be sprayed for, they are very persistent, and can hang out in your clothes.

Yeah, I don't know why they haven't already, since it's on the tenth, seventh, and eighth floors. Apparently they've been here a while, but I've not see any around this appartment, and mum did a crazy cleaning around and didn't find anything. The mattress cover only just tucks under the bottom side, so they might be able to get into the mattress itself, but I don't think they could come all the way through.

Mum says they're not tiny though. You would actually be able to see them. About the side of maybe the tip of your thumb?

Yeah, they are visible, but they hide near sleeping areas. They're easier to spot when they've been feeding recently. They are very thin, but broad, so they look like a little red spot.
