Hahahaha! Oh man, I can just imagine Methos being pissed at MacLeod for getting him noticed by a federal agency and deciding that painting MacLeod as his controlling gay lover was just what he deserved. He might not even try to ensure that MacLeod got free because what’s the worst that could happen? At worst, MacLeod will get arrested and have to either serve time or die in a hail of bullets, and it’s not like he hasn’t gone through that before. Maybe this will even get MacLeod out of his current rut and start a new life with a new name.

And Duncan could be annoyed at Methos both for besmirching his reputation and for wasting the time of the federal agents who are trying to catch a genuine serial killer.

And the BAU are like, “huh, that’s not the reaction I would have expected from him based on his records.”

“Is it just me or do you get the impression he’s more mad at his friend for wasting our time than at us for investigating him?”

Methos might think that Duncan deserves to die of sudden onset lead poisoning and have to find a new life ("And now will you change your name, you infantile anachronism?"), but booking in the modern age probably makes him pretty nervous. He does *not* want his biometric information preserved in an easily accessible database... Or Duncan's, for both altruistic and survival-related reasons. ("I didn't think you cared, Methos"/"About you? No. But I would rather no one ask why you have the same fingerprints as a dead old guy fifty years from now.") Even if he's capable of releasing a virus to corrupt his biometric data, or at least hiring someone capable of doing so, it's better safe than sorry, and he'd rather not deal with the hassle.
