That's what I've been trying to ascertain: is there some reason that I need a dreamwidth account? I've got facebook and livejournal. Is it just new and shiny? Or, is there some reason I should bounce over there? I don't mind bouncing, but I'm just not sure what to make of this whole thing?

I think people are anticipating that it might be the next LJ if LJ continues its downward spiral so people are snatching up their usernames just in case.

Ah...that makes sense. Ok. Well, I don't have to worry about that. There always seem to be plenty of porfin variations, and I can continue my own personal trend of not being especially trendy with regards to new tech. I dreamwidth turns out to be really neat, let me know.

the only evidence of LJ's downward spiral I can see is that people keep mentioning LJ's downward spiral. of course, I suppose social network popularity is like the market in that if everyone thinks it's going down, it actually goes down. but seriously, what is supposedly going to happen to LJ?
