Worried about Mr. Woo Cat

He's old, I mean, REALLY old.... 21 at least..   but today he seems older than he did yesterday.   I thought he'd just woken up earlier- he probably had- but he's really dozey, wobbly on his feet, and there's something about his eyes.  He's even more vague than he usually is. And there's something in his looks.  I think his face is puffy - mother ( Read more... )

Oh, Mr Woo...he really is an old man. He's so lovely, it'll be so sad to see him go. But at least we know he's had a long life with a loving family.

Still, we can hope he's with us for a good deal longer :)

I think the puffiness is because his head is the only bit left of him that is groomed and 'normal' furred! Yes, there IS something indefinably different about him today, yes, he IS extremely old, and if he starts being miserable, yes I WILL take responsibility for his comfort and get him down to the vet. In the meantime, he will have his usual comfort and food.

Hun, he is old, it will be very sad when he goes but if it time for him to go to the Heavyside layer then it's time. If it's time then may he go quickly and painlessly, if not may he stick his tail up at all of us and hang around for another couple of slightly confused but comfortable years.

What was worrying me so much was that I couldn't put my finger on WHY he looked strange. But it is that his face is very puffy- his forehead, nose and cheekbones are all puffy, making his eyes deeply hooded and his nose much wider than normal, and the shape of his muzzle thin anddrawn in comparison.

Now I know what it is that is looking wrong, I'm one step less worried - well, no, not worried, but confused. It may well have been the strong chemicals the window men were using today... he might be fine by the morning. Or else - it might be a development of the lump in his neck, somehow fluids are being retained in his facial tissue due to a blockage. In which case, that might also clear itself in the morning. Or just sit there like the lump is. He doesn't feel pain, really, which is a mixed blessing. His dodgy hip no longer bothers him, but you can't tell if there's something really wrong or not.

anything to think about, other than this essay!!!

Oh, Woo :( He does look the worse for ware, but your theory about the chemicals does seem likely *nods* As you said, he is old though, and when he does go, my only hope is that it will be quick and painless. You've given him a wonderful, loving and comfortable life - what feline could ask for more?
