So female and/or POC writers are as out of place in fandom as, quote, corn in a potato field, an oak in a pine forest, a Black Beatle, a piece of lettuce in a ream of paper.

Let us repeat that: as a piece of lettuce in a ream of - white (!) paper.Let's ignore the fact that Paul Di Filippo doesn't know squat about agriculture or forestry - it ( Read more... )

So, this guy really doesn't see a difference between a couple of people forming a band and a deliberately-selected anthology? How ... precious.

Eversummer Eve has a very interesting archive set-up. I don't think I've seen its like before. I definitely like it better than the calendar style so many comics default to.

Yeah, that was some spectacular fail. Wasn't at all sure whether to laugh or cry. Probably a little of both.

when someone says something so objectively appalling and outrageous that it makes people of good will assume that it can't be serious, it has to be a parody of outrageousness (or alternately, something so outrageously stupid and counter to basic natural history that one assumes it to be a parody of ignorance and fatuity) but this has to always be tempered by knowledge of the-world-as-it-is - that is, it's basic charity to assume of a stranger that they *aren't* mean and stupid, until proven otherwise; but to assume that *no one* could be mean and stupid in such ways (which I'm not saying you're doing, but I see it soooo often on liberal blogs in the assertion that No one could POSSIBLY believe X, from the Death Panels bs to Women Tempt Men to Uncontrollable Desire by Wearing A Cross-slung Purse to the great Mexican-Caliphate Plot To Destroy America that it needs its own post or at least sub-post) is to ignore history and not get out enough, either ( ... )
