Why you shouldn't leave laundry on the floor

Apr 20, 2006 08:32

The most important reason:

If your cat absolutely can't wait for you to finish washing and drying out the litterbox, a pile of yesterday's dirty clothes looks like a good substitute.

Excuse me while I go scream (and put the clothes in the sink to soak.)

animal behavior, cats, argh

You know, when I saw your post on my friendslist, I had to do a doubletake to see whether my husband posted this before we left for work.

FYI, Nature's Miracle (an enzymatic cleaner) is a very good friend. [Wipe the floor with it; pour it in the laundry in the bleach dispenser; heck, they know their market well enough they now make laundry detergent.]

You have my sympathies and understanding.

Nature's Miracle, huh? The next time I plan to drive over a mountain I'll have to stop at the pet store and get some.

(Can you tell I have the same problem?)

heh - you know who they should market to? bellatrys April 20 2006, 14:51:30 UTC
Cons. They should put up a *booth* and sell and hand out flyers at every con in the country. Take out ads in Analog. *And* on blogs, because I don't know how many times I've read people discussing similar problems!

someone goes back in time to stop the first prehistoric humans from domesticating dogs and cats

"No, really! It only *seems* like a good idea now, trust me!"

Say I, as I make plans to swing by the big pet food store to get those special kitty treats my crew love...

You mean, of course, to warn the first prehistoric humans against being domesticated by cats.

Deiseach

On the plus side, it could have been today's clean clothes.

Yep. My cat actually seems to *prefer* clean clothes.

But they prefer to sleep in the laundry basket, and they at least don't pee where they sleep.

The problem is that the usual alternatives when disdaining hte litter box, while not good, are at least *better* when it comes to washability (linoleum hallway, shower stall). But apparently the "ooh, hide by covering" possibilities of cloth were too good to pass up today...

I would share the story of my foot anointing by a certain sleepy senior gentleman terrier nearly a year ago, but I think it may be too much information.

With much sympathy,

10 years with a insufficiently house-trained cat have got me into the habit of never having anything lying on the floor that hasn't a hard, smooth surface. Not even carpets.

The cat was too young when we got him and came from one chaotic household into another chaotic household (where nearly everything was on the floor as shelves and drawers were a bourgeois conspiracy), so he never learned.

At least, these days, I've got a washing machine.
