I love to read all the different takes on the year or two before Sam left for Stanford - and this is one of my favorites! Your sense of place and setting is evocative and real, and I love an effective, believable casefic. But it's your insights into character and the ingenious way you have the brothers discover or reveal things about themselves or each other that hits my bulletproof kink.

And Sam saving Dean is another.

Awesome fic!

Thanks! I was a little leery about tackling that time period, I must admit -- it's one that I really felt I had to get right, if that makes sense. But then the scene on the bridge with the phantom hitchhiker came to me and I was all "okay then! That's what we're gonna do!"

Mmmm, that's so good. Also, I don't think I remembered that you were Casix Thistlebane. I know I've read some under that name...

Fantastic story.

I keep it on the DL to a certain extent -- Casix both pre- and post-dates my degree in writing, and the switch to Bella was in no small part a way to distance myself from some of that early writing.

But it's fun these days to refer back to my older works, under the various (five!) different names I've written under.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!

As I was reading this I kept being impressed by the sense of place and texture. The author's note explains why, but the craft of it is still impressive.

Thanks. I love really digging into a place, and trying to capture the feel of it at a certain point in time.

Oh, man. Really very much enjoyed this. Sam's desperate need to fit in, be one of them, be *normal* (meaning safe), be not what he was.

And Dean cheerfully turning it on it's ear, turning a midnight stroll into house-breaking and thieving, into party-crashing and free alcohol.

So much *want* in this, from Sam and from Dean, too. And Sam is *not* a tool, and Dean will never be okay with him going, but he'll be Sam's security blanket.... And the hitchhiker was quite horrifying, and the Grey Lady was...not quite, and Barry and Joni....
*hands*

Really enjoyed it.

Thanks! It was really fascinating developing the levels to Sam and Dean's relationship reflected in the different areas of St. Petersburg. I'm glad it turned out to be fun to read, too!
