I am deeply, deeply horrified by what's been going on in Burma. I'm also horrified that, like Oaxaca and hundreds/thousands of other places where people experience oppression, the American media sits back and says fucking NOTHING.

Fuck. I was just reading about this in the New York Times. They showed several cute pictures of Monks blockading streets, wrote a vague article about how long the protests had been going on and how many people were in the streets, and somehow FAILED TO MENTION THERE WAS ANY VIOLENCE.

Thanks.

Actually, NPR and the NY Times have been covering it as well as they can for the last couple of weeks, but the junta has notoriously prevented the media from getting the word out.

It's a terrible situation, though. I listened to some first-hand accounts yesterday that made my stomach turn.

Isn't it sad? Our media is owned by a few powerful corporations which choose the news to report or supress based on their own self interest. This is the biggest threat to western democracy today.

My GOD. I haven't even heard ANY of this, and I read news sources.

The picture of the monk in the water made me cry so hard.
