LOTR Halloween

Oct 18, 2007 01:53

I've begun thinking about Halloween. I'm not sure what or who I want to dress up as specifically, yet. But I'm leaning towards something LOTR related. Perhaps a Hobbit (maybe specifically Rosie Cotton), or maybe Eowyn? I'm just wondering how to pull off such costumes on a limited budget... Any suggestions? Tips?

My brother dressed up as Gandalf the Grey once. The grey cloak covered everything on his body so no addtional clothing was required. Bang on a hat and beard, pick up a knotty stick from the ground and you are ready to go!

That being said, Hobbits is a pretty easy option. I always see a lot of peasant style clothing in my local op shop, since the peasant style is so~ last last season. The only problem would be the fluffy feet...

This is probably a really silly idea but how about some oversized (so they'll fit over shoes) flesh tone socks with some fuzzy yarn or bits from a cheap curly wig glued to them?

On a small budget, I would think Gandalf the Grey would be the easiest to put together. But if you want a female, idk Galadriel's dress isn't too complicated.

Eowyn is actually very easy. I'm going as Eowyn for my orchestra's costume concert (we play LOTR music!). often when I'm digging around for costumes I can't find something that looks exactly right, but it just looks so much like something Eowyn or Arwen would wear it works. For Eowyn, I'd dig for a plain velvet dress at a thriftstore and then maybe find a vest. or find another dress, cut the sleeves off and slash the front of the skirt for an overdress. I'm sewing all of my stuff, though. *runs off to attempt to finish bodice by sunday*

No fair! I want to play in your orchestra! :)

I agree that you could probably pull together an Eowyn costume fairly easily...if you wanted to go for one of her less glamourous costumes, her travelling dress shouldn't be too difficult...all it is, really, is a blue chemise with that tunic-y thing...if you sew, chemises are really easy to make, but you could probably just as easily find a blue cotton dress at a thrift store, and it probably wouldn't be too difficult to find a brown dress or tunic and just cut open the sides and use leather/yarn/whatever you can find or afford to tie them together :)

Thank you! I really appreciate all the responses coming in! Keep them coming! Or better yet, somebody (maybe me later, if nobody else does) should post a general LOTR Halloween post on here? I love Halloween, and I get the feeling I´m not the only one here who feels that way. So why not combine the two passions this month? Just a thought.... :: looking a little sheepish ::

No need to feel sheepish! We love it when the members come up with ideas like this one.
If you'd like to do a general LotR Halloween post here, go for it! ^o^ The more we get the community involved the better we like it!
