on "tidying up" and a reverence toward objects

Hope you don't mind me butting it - I haven't actually watched it (I don't have Netflix) but I have been seeing a lot about the books things, and as I understand it, a lot of people are saying "She says you should only have 30 books!" when she actually says 30 is the ideal number *for her* and she understands everyone is going to be different. Ditto the tearing pages out, which people are saying she advocates, when in fact she says it was something she tried and found didn't work.

My mum is doing a lot of tidying/de-cluttering at home and she keeps sending me pictures of things that belonged to me asking me if I still want them. Often these are things I have not used/seen since high school and I haven't thought about in at least 10 years. I think I've finally got through to her to not even bother asking. If I haven't asked for it in all this time, I'm not going to need it now.

I haven't watched the show because I don't have Netflix but I've been reading a fair bit about it. Particularly Book Twitter freaking out about the "30 books" thing, but it seems like a lot of people are misinterpreting what is actually said. I am kind of curious about the philosophy as a whole, so maybe I should try to pick up her book at some point. Is it also called "Tidying Up"?

When I was a kid, I stole or gave away things based on [who will love them more].

Until you said it like that, I never put my finger on why I did this so much as a child and sometimes even as an adult. IT'S SO TRUE TO ME!
