As I was reading this whole post, I kept on thinking things that you then brought up (like short shorts probably having more chance of skin contact on the machines) and I'm so glad you sent the email. I don't really blame you for not thinking much of the manager after the initial interaction, but here's hoping they do advocate for change and maybe it will go through.
