I tend to think of self-work as 'fluffy' or less important but it isn't. People need self-love to survive oppression, and we need oppressed people to survive or we cannot destroy the system.

I agree whole-heartedly... one of the main reasons I had to get out of the activism I was doing was there were so many folks with unchecked damage flailing around. They didn't realize they were harming as many people as they were helping.

*nods eagerly* yes, I found it so helpful at TBC -- even on days I didn't go there, just knowing that I COULD made it all less draining.

Things I would definitely do include setting aside a quiet non-interaction space for anxious folk to take a break because fuck did I miss that.

This is brilliant! I think I might bring this up with the folks behind Arisia, my one never-miss-it con, because I'm kind of amazed that I haven't seen it before (aside from an aftercare room at a very well-run kink convention a few years ago).

*nods* I know several TBC people who also go to Arisia! I've never been, because one round-trip flight a year is hard enough for me to manage cost-wise. I've heard great things though.
