I think it was the most intense it has been, because there was one person who immediately called out the racism that permeates many queer events. I ( Read more... )

I think that language around racism is sloppy and that's just the language that we have: you were saying "I need to be specific," but it seems to me like being more specific means using LOTS and LOTS of verbiage to cover concepts that are small. Do you have ways of going about being more specific? I'd love to know them, as I've noticed this too. People don't respond positively to being called "racist" when what they're doing is much more passive than burning crosses/ joining up with the KKK, but there's not a lot of more specific language to be found, or that I've found anyway.

there were more things I wanted to respond to in this post but my sick-brain is too unfocused to find them again :/

I was in a weird mood, but reading how incredible and intense and self-nourishing the weekend was for you was grounding and lovely.

Also, *offershugs* for the stress about bit givingoutcontacts

This is lovely to read. May I ask in what way you were the first to be silly? How did you start it? I'm so glad that everyone responded. I'm glad you got so much out of the entire weekend, both from giving talks and hearing them. I don't think you need feel out of your depth about the Forefathers talk because as you say, you felt engagement from most people and I really think you wouldn't have sensed that if people felt bored/that it wasn't meeting their expectations of the talk.

I'm sorry you feel sad that you didn't approach more people, but there is always the online option. I felt similarly after LingoFest - that I hadn't 'networked' or even just connected, but I found some of the people online and friend requested them, and some accepted.
