yes, next place we live is going to have some kind of balcony or patio or sunroom!
and *falls over in a gigglefit at the idea of babyKate pulling up the plants to check them!* :D so cuuuuuuuuuuute! *more giggles* (and don't you mean "when I was wee"? hee hee)
I haven't been much for IMing for a while now... it's something I'm planning on changing this year but it's not my focus right now, so I just never sign in. :-p
I grew up with a garden too. It took up the entire top part of our hilly backyard until we moved when I was sixteen. So from birth until then I never knew a summer without fresh tomatoes and rasperries (in New Mexico!). My dad still grows some fresh vegetables, but the land they live on now is mostly sand and bunnies (cute, but dangerous for the veggies).
Since I moved out last month, I haven't been able to stop daydreaming about planting my own little garden. It wouldn't be nearly as big as either of my dad's, but can't help but imagine what it would be like to grow things. Maybe because I grew up around it, I don't know, but I feel called to plant things and help them grow.
So, instead of tilling the yard in our rented house, I purchased some little pots for herbs that we're growing on the windowsill. It's not much, but for now it really helps.
I do hope your little lives survive until they can get home to you to thrive. You, and they, have my good thoughts and best wishes.
YES exactly, me too! ♥ But I don't even have a freaking windowsill because the AC vent is right there and will freeze/burn the plants -- if Kanika doesn't knock them over for getting in zir way, agh! But when we move I'll have some light and some space! I'm REALLY ready for that!

thank you for the positive thoughts!
The silk tree (in the South we call it the mimosa but that's confusing because it's the name of a shrub): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albizia_julibrissin photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jefferson-heard/178494269/ (that's not mine of course)
