I haven´t read When Elephants Weep, but i´ve read another of his books The Pig Who Sang to the Moon: The Secret Emotional Lives of Farm Animals. It was incredible, I can´t tell you how many times it made me cry, though. Like properly bawling. I´d love to read When Elephants Weep, but I can´t really take something unbelievably heart wrenching right now, though.

yeah, that one's on my wish list! I didn't find When Elephants Weep especially heart-wrenching, though some of the stories (of experiments) filled me with fury. I think it's more cerebral than most of JMM's others.
