Interesting article. I've been thinking a lot about this issue of "being pretty" and how choosing to be feminine so often equates to choosing to be the "object" - the object of another's desire and affection. And objects don't possess individuality, or they only do in so far as they meet the criterias of an object. The idea that the entirety of a females worth is to seduce, is to be an object.
I'm sure to anyone who has delved into gender studies, these ideas are not new, but to me they are. And realizing these things, and especially how fully I've bought the whole concept, pisses me off. Yes, I bought the concept unwittingly, but I still bought it.
Have you ever read "The Second Sex" by Simone De Beauvoir? You might enjoy it.
It's a beautiful photograph of you, but you knew that already. ;)
I'm liking what bezigebij just said. I'm beginning to think that men may be (maybe only recently, but nonetheless) feeling similar pressure.
A) Women are very much right in trying to break that trend. B) This country has devolved into such drooling-idiot consumers that even men, who were once "immune" to this effect that they're now becoming like the women of the past who actually had rules published in respectable magazines (read: That was fake, but the sentiment was real).
Seriously, though? No Fake articles? We have become so obsessed with image that we literally PAY to become walking advertisements for corporations! (Yes, if you own Abercrombie, think just a bit harder.)
I have an average body. I'm OK with that in front of people I already know and trust. The public image still makes me feel inferior.
It sucks, basically.
BTW, I think that picture may be the inspiration for the more creative and original drawing tribute to you. I love that expression and pose.
And realizing these things, and especially how fully I've bought the whole concept, pisses me off.
I know the feeling!
Never heard of that book but I just looked it up and oh my God/dess, the review left by one person absolutely made me cry. thank you ♥ am definitely adding it to my wishlist.

Do you want a proper translation done? The above gives the gist of it, but does miss a few spots...

I would love that! If you would be willing to go to all that trouble, I'd be very grateful! ;-)
