We broke a thousand! My comm curvygirls now has 1020 members! *crazy weird dancing*

Seriously, when I think about the impact this community is having, I'm blown away. Creating it, I thought it would end up being just a group of people like myself who like curvy women. Instead it has become a movement; girls come in with no self esteem and learn their ( Read more... )

It's about learning to love ourselves for being OURSELVES, rather than rating ourselves and everyone else according to how we match some tyrannical unhealthy standard set by greedy fucks who want to beat us down and charge us for it. You know, that's a way of looking at "thin culture" I hadn't before... and I've given it loads of thought! I know a lot of it has to do with greed and money for selling an image and selling "sex", and I've known that fitting into a certain image can make insecure people feel like they have something special, something "ideal", but I never really thought of it as... wanting everyone to be the same way so there is more of the same, for them. So that less people get happiness and body love. Wow. But yeah, I think that's another effect of the similar thing... of feeling insecure and so not wanting others to challenge your "idea" that you are on some path of happiness by being thin ( ... )

there is so much money riding on women's insecurity. SO MUCH. If women rose up and believed in themselves, they'd stop buying so much concealing makeup, anti-aging crap, weight-loss crap (pills and books and gym memberships), girdles, 'control-top' pantyhose, hair dye, manicures, pedicures, tanning, endless hair cuts in order to look 'polished' and 'in style' not to mention all the CLOTHES!!! We'd dress in things we liked and wear them until they fell apart rather than switching them out whenever tyrannical fashion decides that it's time for a new pile of money. We'd never buy ridiculously overpriced shoes and dresses, but instead buy normal-priced comfortable things that appealed to US as individuals! WE'D STOP BUYING FUCKING MAGAZINES that preach weightloss and 'style'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DOWN WITH THE FUCKING TYRANNY!!!!!!!

You created something amazing when you started curvygirls and I agree, it really is a 'movement'. My greatgrandmother was a suffragette - she even went to prison after chaining herself to the railings outside the houses of parliament. I see the Curvylution as important as that movement. We are repressed by the media and by social standards. It takes a few to break out and say 'I'm not playing that game anymore' and you have given us a place to speak out. And of course actions speak louder than words. The second week in January I have a life modelling job at a college I sometimes work at. I have been feeling fearful because since I last modelled there I have gained quite a lot of body fat. There has been a scared voice in my head saying 'There will be comments about how your body has changed, cancel the booking' but I'm serious about my part in the Curvylution and will do the job and display my curvy body with pride. I have not weighed myself for many months now, and as I find myself growing too large for my existing clothes and buying the next ( ... )
